May 15, 2012, is National Peace Officers' Memorial  Day and May 13-19, 2012, is National Police Week.  Thanks to those who have served or are serving as law enforcement officers.

May 20-26, 2012, is National Public Works Week.  Thanks to those who provide valuable community services through the efficient operation of public works systems. 

May 20-26, 2012, is National Emergency Medical Services Week.  Thanks to those who provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

WHEREAS, National Curves Day on May 17 was initiated in celebration of National Women’s Health Week, May 13-19, to make health information and gym memberships more accessible to more women nationwide; and

WHEREAS, from that day forward, National Curves Day will occur in the spring on the Thursday following Mother’s Day during National Women’s Health Week; and

WHEREAS, National Curves Day is a celebration of women taking responsibility for their health and an opportunity for those who would like to; and

WHEREAS, National Curves Day recognizes all local citizens and organizations whose fundraising and awareness efforts have improved the lives of the women in our community;

WHEREAS, Curves has chosen Murrysville, PA to officially launch its local efforts.

NOW, THEREFORE, I Robert J. Brooks,  Mayor of the Municipality of Murrysville, urge all citizens to participate in the activities planned heretoforth.

IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Municipality of Murrysville to be affixed this 16th day of May of the year of our Lord, two thousand and twelve.

• One permit pass per household. Proof of residency must be presented to the Municipal Receptionist.
• One car or pick-up truck load per household. A trailer may be attached to car or truck to haul items.
• Absolutely no commercial contractors and/or trucks will be admitted to the landfill to dispose of items. Clean-Up Week is for residential items only.
• The following items are not permitted: No TVs, computers, computer monitors; no tires; no batteries; no appliances with or without Freon e.g. air conditioners, refrigerators, de-humidifiers, etc.; no items containing liquids such as paint, oil or gas; no hazardous waste items; no whole trees or tree trunks.
• The following items are permitted: Shingles, drywall, bathtubs, windows, cement block, patio stones, railroad ties, timber (treated or non-treated), furniture, brush and tree limbs no larger than 2” to 3” in diameter.
• This will be the only landfill clean-up event in 2012.

The Penn State Extension will conduct a FREE Onlot Septic System Workshop on Thursday, May 31, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Rostraver Township Municipal Building, 201 Municipal Drive, Belle Vernon, PA  15012.  Registration is necessary:  724-837-1402 by Tuesday, May 29, 2012.  If you have, use, or plan to install a septic system, this workshop is important to you!

The Murrysville Emergency Management Agency has established an Emergency Shelter Program.  In order to better serve the community, please complete the Shelter Form, should you (or a loved one) have a special need e.g. oxygen dependency, blind, deaf, wheelchair, etc.  Please mail the form to MAC, P.O. Beginning on January 1, 2012, Act 32 takes effect requiring all Pennsylvania employers to withhold local earned income taxes from employees.  This is the 1% paid by all wage earners.  Half of these taxes are remitted to the Municipality of Murrysville and the other half goes to the Franklin Regional School District.  Information for Murrysville residents, businesses, and the self-employed is located on the Act 32 page.  Please click on the Act 32 link for complete details.
