Municipal Parks

Murrysville has a wide variety of parks and recreational facilities including sports fields, neighborhood parks, community parks, Community Center, and extensive natural areas for hiking and enjoying the beauty of nature.

Park pavilions must be reserved.  Please click on the Rental Reservations link for information and pricing.

Dogs in Parks Rules:

  1. Dogs must be leashed or otherwise controlled (remaining in sight of the owner and must return promptly to the owner upon command).
  2. Dogs must be leashed in parking lots and around sports fields when in use.
  3. Dogs are prohibited in playground areas.
  4. Owners must clean up after their dogs.

Bear Hollow Park

Bear Hollow is located off Trouthaven Drive in Heather Highlands. The park contains two baseball fields, two tennis courts, a basketball/street hockey court and a picnic pavilion with nearby grills. The pavilion has lights when rented. For children, there is a new playground. A stream that runs along one edge of the park is always of interest. Park Directions

Chambers Park

Chambers is located off McWilliams Road in the Meadowbrook section of town. It has become a popular place for family reunions with its playground designed for children ages 4 – 8, two tennis courts, a basketball/street hockey court, baseball/softball field and green open space area. Duff Park

Duff is a natural area located in hilly, heavily wooded terrain. It runs parallel to Route 22 and its main entrance is off School Road about 1000 feet south of the intersection with Route 22. There are numerous trails that can be used for a relaxing walk or a strenuous workout. The Funk Trail that runs along Turtle Creek and crosses it twice provides a flat walking and biking trail for about 1.5 miles and then goes up an incline until it reaches Round Top Road. The other trails provide the walker or biker with easy walking to strenuous climbs depending on the route chosen. Round Top Trail also connects to Round Top Road less than a mile west of Bessie Staymates Log House. There is a pavilion that provides a quiet site for a picnic or may be rented for group activities. Heritage Park

Heritage Park is located off Logan Ferry Rd on Cypress Drive in the Heritage plan. It is being developed as a neighborhood park. The park currently includes a playground structure, pavilion, and parking. It also includes a basketball court, multi- use field with youth goals, open field, and a water fountain.

Lillian Kellman Nature Reserve

This wooded, relaxing area with trails for easy walking is located in the most densely populated area of Murrysville. Parking is available at the end of Kellman Drive. To get to the reserve turn onto Meadow Gate Drive from North Hills Road and take the second right onto Kellman Drive. The Westmoreland Conservancy and the Municipality purchased the reserve as a cooperative effort in 1994. Habitat maps are available from the Recreation Department for scouts and educational groups. Kovalczik Park

Kovalczik Park- Kovalczik Park has two entrances and parking areas. The one closest to the pavilion is at the end of Koval Court and the one closest to the playground is at the end of Henry Hudson Drive. The baseball/softball field can be reached from either parking lot. There is a pavilion available for rental with grills. There is a hard court area for basketball and street hockey located near the pavilion. There is NO water or electric available. Park Directions

Murrysville Community Park

Murrysville Community Park is currently open to the public with four (4) athletic fields. Two (2) multi use fields and two (2) baseball/softball fields were put in use the spring of 2007. Completion of a third multi-use field that will be used in the fall of 2009 will allow field to get put into a rotation for better turf. MCP now has tot-lots and a pavilion that will be ADA accessible from the parking lot.

Thank to the efforts of several volunteers a 1.5 mile trail was installed from the Sears house through the woods to the highest point overlooking the sport fields.

Through the efforts of several volunteers there is now a completed walking trail. The Valley Hiking Trail is 1.5 miles long and winds from the Sears house on Wiestertown Road through woods, clearings, down into the lowest part of the valley, over tributaries of Steels Run and to the high plateau with a view of the ball fields below and wooded hills in the distance.

"Paws on the Run", the dog park at Murrysville Community Park (off Farm Road), will be open in April 2010. The dog park is a secured, fenced-in area for dogs to socialize. There is a section for large dogs and a section for small dogs. "Paws on the Run" was made possible through a donation from the Brooks Family of Murrysville.

Miracle Field will add a new dimension to M.C.P. with a surface ready for play by those in wheelchairs. Seniors will also enjoy bocce and shuffleboard on this field.

Pedora Park

Murrysville’s newest neighborhood park is located at the corner of Old William Penn Highway and Wilson Road in the White Valley section of town. The park includes a baseball field, basketball courts, play equipment with a slide 108” inches high. A pavilion with electricity and lighting and grills is available upon rental. Park Directions

Pleasant Valley Park

Pleasant Valley Park is an undeveloped property on Pleasant Valley Rd. The public can access the property by parking in a small parking lot located off Pleasant Valley Road.  Because of traffic on Pleasant Valley Rd., please use caution when entering and leaving the parking lot.  The property contains a wide variety of woods, open fields, hills and valleys, and small tributary to Lyons Run.   Volunteers built the parking lot through financial contributions and volunteer labor.  A network of hiking/mountain biking trails have been completed by volunteers. Motorized vehicles may not be used in this or any other Murrysville property unless authorized.

Royal Highlands Ball Field and Bear Hollow Trail

Royal Highlands Baseball Field is located on Gun Club Road on the western edge of the Municipality. Bear Hollow Trail connects Gun Club Road opposite the Royal Highlands Baseball Field to Forbes Trail Drive in Heather Highlands. This ½-mile trail follows a small stream through a pleasant, wooded hollow. Park Directions

Staymates Log House and Barn

The first portion of the house was built in the 1700's and added to in the 1800's. The Staymates family purchased the property in 1852 and farmed the land until the early 1900's. The last family member to live in the home was Bessie Staymates. "Miss Bessie" was a well-known local school teacher who left the house and land to the the Girl Scouts. The Municipality bought the property (house, barn and 7 acres) in December, 1977. Directions to Staymates

Townsend Park

This 160.71-acre park is located off of Twin Oaks Drive about one-half mile from the intersection of Sardis Road and Twin Oaks Drive near the geographic center of Murrysville. The Ron Stoll and Pine Grove Trails offer a place for easy walking through the woods while Pokeberry and Heart Attack Trails are for those persons interested in moderate to strenuous hikes. The always lovely Spring Hill and Hillside Trails allow the hiker to get to the back edges of the park. In addition to the trails, there are two gardens. There is the American Legion Garden with a lovely display of iris in the spring and the Rotary Garden that surrounds the gazebo which has been often used for family portraits and wedding photos. There are two pavilions with electricity and lights available upon rental and grills. The Remaley Pavilion overlooks the pond that is stocked each year and there is a campfire pit for permitted groups. At the eastern end of the park there are two baseball fields. Veterans & Beckwith Sports Fields

The Peter and Victoria Skena Nature Reserve

Located off North Hills Road, approximately one mile from Old William Penn Highway.  The 22-acre reserve is a new addition to the Muncipality in 2011.  The reserve is open to the public, although some developmental projects are still in the planning stages.  One is to develop an official trail system throughout the reserve which will be accomplished through volunteer efforts and secondly, volunteer efforts will be made to preserve the spring house.  So, stop by and enjoy a leisurely walk through the woods and check out our newest addition to the Municipal parks system.
