Recycling in Murrysville
Murrysville is a mandated recycling community under Pennsylvania State Act 101. New homeowners are provided with a recycling bin at no cost. Bins may be obtained at the Municipal Building between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. If the home is sold, the bin should be left at the residence for the new owner. Replacement or extra recycling bins may be purchased at the Municipal Building at a cost of $12.00.
Materials to be Recycled at Curbside
Place all recyclables in the recycling bin. No need to separate items!
Residents may place loose paper products, such as newspapers, junk mail, office paper, and shredded paper into plastic shopping bags, tie the bags, and place directly into the recycling bin.

If possible, please bundle the cardboard with string, twine, or tape; otherwise, stack neatly next to the recycling bin.

How to Dispose of Latex and Oil-Based Paint Latex Paint:
If the paint can is rather full, you must first harden the liquid. Lowe's Home Improvement Store sells a product called "Biowash Waste Paint Hardener" in a blue and orange packet, which can be found in the paint section. The product is a powder that can be poured directly into latex paint and will harden up to 2/3 gallon. This product costs around $2.00 per packet. Once the liquid is hardened, throw everything away in the regular trash.
If the paint can is less than ½ full - Pour liquid over an absorbent substance, such as clay-based cat litter or shredded newspaper. Set out in the sun to dry and throw everything away in the regular trash.
Oil Paint:
Oil-based paint is considered hazardous material and should be taken to the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection, which is typically held in either September or October at a central location in Westmoreland County. The Municipality of Murrysville residents may dispose of their items free of charge.
