| The District Court serves
the Westmoreland County communities of Murrysville, Export and Delmont,
and is the local branch of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's unified
judicial System.
The Court's functions include concurrent primary jurisdiction with
the Court of Common Pleas of Westmoreland County for all civil claims
not exceeding $8,000 as well as the primary court for all landlord-tenant
matters.
In addition the Court holds preliminary hearings for all misdemeanors
and felony criminal charges, and functions as the trier-of-fact
for all summary charges, both traffic and non-traffic.
The District Justice is an elected position, held by either a member
of the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, or by others who
have been trained and certified by the Minor Judiciary Education
Board. The term of office is six years, and the District Justice
and the staff are not paid from fines and costs collected.
Charles Conway is the District Justice, and District Court staff
personnel are Carrie, Cathy, and Joyce.
