Per the Municipality's Refuse Ordinance, each residence must have trash and
recycling collection. Residents must contact the trash/recycling hauler and
set-up an account as this service is not included in residents' taxes.
Currently, refuse disposal for Murrysville residents is provided
by Allied Waste of Scottdale, PA.

If your service day is ON or AFTER one of
the following holidays that are on a weekday, your pickup day will

Recycling in Murrysville

Murrysville is a mandated recycling community under Pennsylvania State
Act 101. New homeowners are provided with a recycling bin at no cost.
Bins may be obtained at the Municipal Building between 8:00 a.m.
5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. If the home is sold, the bin should
be left at the residence for the new owner. Replacement or extra
recycling bins may be purchased at the Municipal Building at a cost
of $10.00.
Materials to be Recycled
Plastic containers with No. 1 or 2 stamped in triangle on bottom
of container: Containers to be rinsed and clean. Paper labels
need not be removed. Containers may be crushed.
Food and beverage cans made of aluminum or tin: Cans are
to be rinsed and cleaned. Paper labels need not be removed. Cans may
be flattened.
Clear, green and brown glass food and beverage containers:
Glass containers are to be rinsed, clean and unbroken. Paper labels
need not be removed.
Newspapers - Allied Waste picks
up newspapers with the regular recycling pick-up. Please place newspapers
to be recycled at the curb on your regular recycling day. Please
either bundle the newspapers or place them in a paper bag. Do not
place newspapers in garbage cans as the recycling personnel neither
look inside the cans to check for newspapers nor will they empty
the cans.
Paper Recycling
Recycling Bins are located at the Veterans Field parking lot on Sardis Road
(near the Public Works facility) for recycling newspapers, catalogs, paperback
books, hardcover books (hardcover must be removed), junk mail, office paper,
and shredded paper. Staples and paper clips do not need to be removed.
Corrugated Cardboard Recycling
To dispose of corrugated cardboard, Murrysville residents may dispose of boxes,
which must be broken down, in the new cardboard recycling containers. The
containers are located at the Veterans Field parking lot near the Public Works
facility on Sardis Road. The Municipality thanks Allied Waste for providing this
free service to Murrysville
More on recycling...If you prefer, you may take your recyclables directly to a
recycling center, in which case you must register with the Municipality and submit
an annual report showing your means of recycling and the amounts of materials
recycled during the year.
Curbside Leaf Collection Program
Allied Waste will conduct five (5) municipal-wide sweeps to collect leaf and yard
waste. Residents should place their leaf and yard waste at the curb on the evening
before the following dates:

Leaves must be placed in biodegradable leaf bags. Leaves placed in plastic bags or any
other container will not be picked up. Please do not place grass clippings, trash,
recycling materials, or any other refuse in the biodegradable leaf bags.
Any resident who misses the municipal-wide sweeps or has extra leaves to be picked up
may contact Allied Waste at 877-788-9400 (Toll-Free) for separate pick-up of leaves at a
cost of $5.00 per bag.
Residents may take leaves to the Pleasant Valley Landfill on Pleasant Valley Road. The
Landfill does not charge a fee for the disposal of leaves at their facility. Leaves must
be placed in the biodegradable bags. Inside the facility, there is a courtesy dumpster
located on the left-hand side, just past the scale.
The Landfill's hours are:
Monday through Friday --5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Saturday - 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Household Hazardous Waste
The annual Household Hazardous Waste Event will be held on
Saturday, September 22, 2007, at the Westmoreland Fairgrounds
in Greensburg, PA. All Murrysville residents may participate in
this event free of charge. Disposal of acceptable materials are
