Function
The Environmental Advisory Council advises local governmental agencies,
including the Planning Commission, the Parks and Recreation Commission,
Council, and the Mayor on matters dealing with environmental impact
statements and with protection, conservation, management, promotion
and use of natural resources, including air, land and water resources,
located within the municipality.
Duties
The duties of the Environmental Advisory Council are: Identify
environmental problems and recommend plans and programs for the
promotion and conservation of the natural resources and for the
protection and improvement of the quality of the environment within
the municipality. Make recommendations as to the possible use of
open land areas of the municipality. Promote community environmental
programs. Keep an index of all open areas publicly or privately
owned, including but not limited to flood-prone areas, swamps and
other unique natural areas, for the purpose of obtaining information
on the proper use of such areas. Advise in the acquisition of property,
both real and personal, by gift, purchase, grant, bequest, easement,
devise or lease in matters dealing with the purposes of this organization.
Advise the Planning Commission on matters relating to environmental
impact statements.
