Functions
The Library Board of Trustees represents the publics interest
in achieving good library service. An effective Board should be comprised
of a cross section of the community and work in a spirit of friendship,
enjoyment, and cooperative effort. A Library Trustee is a non-paid
appointee of the Municipal Council for a three-year term as described
by "The Library Code," Act of June 14, 1961 of the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania.
Duties
A. Governance and Policy Making
- Engage in long range and short-term planning
- Determine goals and objectives and methods of evaluating progress
towards meeting them.
- Relate the library and its programs to the community and its
needs.
- Determine, adopt, and periodically review written policies to
govern the operation, use and programs of the library. Adopt bylaws
for board procedures.
- Seek a cooperative basis with officials of the municipality
and other governing units.
- Strive to know the local, state, and national laws which affect
libraries and play a role in initiating and supporting beneficial
library legislation.
- Attend all board meetings and committee meetings to which assigned.
B. Financial
- Keep abreast of the financial status of the library and secure
adequate funds.
- Work with the Director to formulate and adopt a budget to meet
the librarys goals.
- Present the budget to public officials and the general public;
explain and defend it.
- Work with other agencies in fund raising or in seeking grants
for the library.
C. Personnel
- Employ a competent and qualified Library Director.
- Perform annual performance reviews of the Director and agree
upon objectives.
- Develop policies to guide staff selection and management.
- Provide adequate compensation and reasonable fringe benefits
for all employees. Provide agreeable working conditions and opportunities
for professional growth.
Meetings
Meets on 3rd Thursday of month at 7:00PM in Library.
