The Zoning Hearing Board
is a five-person panel that is appointed by the Municipal Council
to hear appeals from property owners for relief from the Municipal
Zoning Ordinance.
Duties
Zoning Hearing Board acts under the authority of the Pennsylvania
Municipalities Planning Code, with prescribed responsibilities,
that include:
- Appeals from the determination of the zoning officer, including
the granting or denial of any permit.
- Applications for variances and special exceptions
- Procedural challenges to a land use ordinance
- Other functions of the Board include substantive challenges
to the Ordinance, flood plain appeals, and appeals from the zoning
officers determination for a preliminary opinion.
