Hunting in Murrysville Parks
– all bow hunting except Pleasant Valley during a single season
All Murrysville parks will remain open during the seasons, except Pleasant Valley Park
which will be closed for the winter flintlock season from Dec. 26 - Jan. 12.
Only bow hunting will be permitted at all other times. Parks where hunting will occur
are Kellman Nature Reserve, Townsend Park, Duff Park, Murrysville Community Park,
Pleasant Valley Park and Pin Oak Open Space.
Hunting dates are September 15 - December 22 and December 26 - January 26.
There is absolutely no rifle hunting in Murrysville Parks.
Special recognition for the program: Pick up a copy of the November issue of the
National Geographic and look for the mention of the Murrysville Parks Hunting Program
featuring a picture of Michael Maddy, program lead coordinator. There has been hunting
in the parks for over 25 years; however, in the fall of 2002 the program was reorganized
and placed a greater emphasis on deer management rather than providing a recreational
opportunity for hunters under the direction of Recreation Director Michele Clarke and a
committee of interested hunters and citizens. The new program has 100 participating bow hunters
that have passed the proficiency test and are assigned to hunt in one of seven hunting areas.
They must hunt from tree stands to have greater view of surrounding area.
