Riparian Buffer Project at Murrysville Community Park

In 2017, the Municipality was awarded a grant in the amount of $50,000 from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program administered by the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) for development of a riparian buffer along Steele's Run stream in Murrysville Community Park. Funding for these types of projects comes from the Keystone Recreation, Park and Recreation Fund (Key 93), the Environmental Stewardship Fund (Growing Greener) and federal funding sources.

Additional funding was provided by: Dominion Energy and Olympus Energy

RiparianBuffer

Located at the corner of Farm and Wiestertown Roads, more than 300 trees and bushes have been planted in addition to installation of a walkway, benches, handicapped parking area, and a new pavilion. Improving this area of the park was needed but, more importantly, protecting the headwaters of Steele's Run stream was imperative. Now a peaceful natural area for sitting and walking has been created, along with a pavilion available for use by the community.

In October of 2018, Dominion Energy employees assisted Murrysville's Public Works Department with planting 190 trees and bushes at the riparian buffer location. Volunteers from Westmoreland Conservancy also contributed to the project.
